The question everyone has been asking

Edited to add:  So, I thought this was funny because... I don't know, I'm sort of an idiot.  I have gained so much weight since I started eating gluten that people think I'm pregnant.  I'm not.  I just have a huge gut.  Please excuse any confusion.

****************************************************************************
It started in November.  I felt a hunger for something I had been missing.  So, I dove in with reckless abandon and soon I could feel that familiar swelling in my belly.  My pants became tight.  Then tighter.  Then so tight that buttoning them made me want to barf.    I did that thing where you loop a rubberband around the top button of your jeans so that you can button them up.

As the months have ticked by, my belly has continued to grow and expand.  I finally gave up and bought bigger jeans.  I catch people giving me the side-eye and then inevitably they ask me questions like, "Are you done having babies, Mary?".  "Are you going to have any more kids?".  Or they come right out and say, "Oh!  Are you pregnant?!".

So, I will go ahead and spill the beans.  Yes, there is a bun in my oven... made of wheat.  I am in my second trimester with what I lovingly refer to as my Wheat Baby.

Sometimes I think I can feel him kicking.

Appropriately, Wheat Baby very closely resembles rising bread dough.

--Also, that's not my belly.  Mine actually works worse thanks to eleventy jillion stretch marks.

I think this guy might be having a Wheat Baby, too!!

There you have it. Definitely exciting news, I mean, every baby is a blessing, after all.  But, don't feel compelled to start planning any baby showers or knitting booties.

In other news, I went back to gluten-free eating today.

There's a joke in there somewhere about wheat babies and sperm, but I can't quite make it. I'll just put those words out there and let you do the rest. Congratulations, though!

Ok, I usually can tell when you're hiding your bump and I watched you give your talk on Saturday and had no clue. Congratulations, you better not say you're never having another baby, nobody will believe you!

Uhhh, Jana... I'm NOT pregnant. LOL

Mary  – (March 7, 2013 at 4:28 PM)

Oh boy, this joke flopped hard. :/

Jana  – (March 7, 2013 at 4:59 PM)

Ok, so??? I read it over and over just cause I wasn't sure. Ignore my comment, I'm smart I promise!

That is so exciting!! only joking.. As my youngest once told me after my husband made fun of my wheat baby, "My lubs your big belly."

Jennifer  – (March 8, 2013 at 8:29 AM)

Haha. I feel your pain. I've only had two babies and I look almost identical! Mine's a sugar baby, though.

Ok, I admit that I fell for it when I saw the picture before I read the post.

I think we all wanted you to be pregnant so we could see pictures of another beautiful baby. You have to admit, you and Mr. Darcy make some very beautiful babies.

Maybe you SHOULD get pregnant again. Speaking for myself,I would rather be pregnant to explain my belly than put forth the effort to diet it back down to proper size. Maybe this is a sign that you need another bundle. Whatcha think?

Mary, you are hilarious. I love stalking your blog. Never in a million years would I be brave to post that picture. Kudos!

LOL! You crack me up!

I am much further along with my own wheat belly. ;) It's so not good.

Laura Kurz  – (March 10, 2013 at 8:41 PM)

I thought this was funny. I think you are funny! :)

Tori  – (March 12, 2013 at 12:36 PM)

Ok, I fell for it too...though I was not completely positive you were serious, until I started reading comments. I thought your comment of "I am NOT pregnant" was huge denial along with the term "wheat baby"!

My sentiment is the same: Congratulations!

You crack me up. Your humor made me laugh this evening, and I needed it so very much.

If there's a wheat baby baby shower, I will bring a box of cannolis from Mike's Pastry!!
